Edie Stearns named district Teacher of the Year

Edie Stearns wanted to be a teacher since she was a young girl.  Twenty-five years ago her dream became reality when she started as an intern at Chanhassen Elementary School in a 1st grade classroom with teachers Carol Berg and Peggy Kaufhold. She has also spent time teaching elementary students at Bluff Creek and, for the past six years, at Chaska Elementary teaching multi-age (4th/5th) language arts, math and science. “Edie is a gift to everyone she encounters!” says Chaska Elementary Principal June Johnson.  “Her intuitive sense of what students need and her passion to help them succeed is evident in all she does. Zanner Rowe named nation's best history teacher

Jenny Zanner Rowe, who teaches social studies at Chanhassen High School, received the prestigious Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year Award. This honor is bestowed on only one high school and one middle school teacher in the nation.  She is the first teacher in Minnesota to win the award.  Zanner Row was eligible for the national award after winning top honors for Minnesota. The national honor, which comes with a $10,000 award, recognizes outstanding commitment to student development, creativity and inspiring students to engage with history. “The finest teachers I know are History Day teachers and media specialists, so this is an incredible honor for me,” said Zanner Rowe.  “Connie Nuss (Media Specialist) was critical in helping me get the program off the ground at Chanhassen High School.” Zanner Rowe currently teaches AP Human Geography and Sociology. School Board approves attendance area proposal

New attendance areas go into effect fall of 2017.At a June 9 special meeting, the School Board approved attendance areas for 2017-18, school start and dismissal times and transition options for families in an area with an attendance area change.  Complete information, including an attendance area finder app and transition options, is available HERE. read more

Ryder Cup coming to Chaska – no school Sept. 26-30

If you haven’t heard by now, the Ryder Cup is coming to Chaska!  The 2016 Ryder Cup host, Hazeltine National Golf Club, is located in the heart of the school district. Tens of thousands of golf fans, media from around the world and even heads of state are expected to be in Chaska for the match and preliminary events.  Roads will be closed, traffic will be jammed, many of the district’s buildings and parking lots will be closed, and there will be no school the week of Sept. 26.  read more

Bus schedules posted on Campus Portal in August

Parents: watch for bus info on Campus Portal in early August.Watch for bus schedule information to be posted on Campus Portal the first week of August (look under the “Reports” tab).  With the exception of special education and students who attend non-public schools, no letters will be mailed.  Any changes to busing must be made by August 12 and final bus information will be posted on Campus Portal by August 24.
